Nelson Mandela Prayer Route 2019

Launch Prayer By: Bishop Eric Pike

Lord God our Father,

Your servant Nehemiah mourned, wept and prayed because

Jerusalem, the city of his fathers, was broken and his people suffering great hardships,

(Nehemiah 1; 4)

Lord God our Father

We too come before you to mourn, to weep, and to pray because our Metro, the Metro that bears the revered name of Nelson Mandela, is broken and many of its people suffer great hardships.

Lord God our Father

We read with deep sadness that our Metro is the rated as the worst performing Metro in the country in terms of revenue collecting and spending.

Lord God our Father

We learn with a great sense of guilt in this time of drought and water scarcity that, as much water is lost each day in our Metro as a result of leaking pipes and ruptured infrastructure, as is used by our residents.

Lord God our Father

We acknowledge with shame that many parts of our Metro; residential, central and industrial, are disgracefully dirty with piles of rotting, uncollected refuse while plastic bags are blown and strewn everywhere.

Lord God our Father

We see and smell with disgust the raw sewerage oozing from manhole covers and broken pipes in many places in our Metro.

Lord God our Father

We earnestly pray that you would raise up women and men with servant hearts who will bring political stability to lead, rebuild and repair our Metro to serve all its people.

Lord God our Father

We pray that you will inspire godly men and women who will, with creativity, vision and energy develop this Metro that at all who seek to work in it will find employment and be proud citizens of Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
